What is Digital Marketing?

A digital strategy consultant in Glasgow.

Different people in the online marketing business will answer this question differently. You will however hear words like Adwords, PPC (pay per click), CPA (cost per action) and CPM (cost per thousand). Adwords, banners and paid for advertising will pop us well, And then there's organic marketing. The cheaper but far more elusive route to a permanent digital presence.

So how does it work?

Every marketer has a different approach to strategy and even the strategies behind each strategy. If you want to an open and transparent view of the process that is play with your overall digital strategy then you should have a strategy document.

What is a strategy document?

A strategy document will usually start with a comprehensive of audit of all your digital assets such as your website, your social media platforms, curation tools, the SEO and marketing funnels you already have in place.

It will then lead onto a step by step assessment of both the assets you already have, and the ones you need to integrate to make your marketing strategy viable and effective.

Each step should cover everything from your website, your blogs, your external content e.g. articles on other high ranking sites that drive traffic and whether the tools you are using are appropriate or whether you need to use different tools.

The strategy document will also stipulate methodologies used in each step, such as how to build and integrate marketing funnels, which tools are best to subscribe to and how to calculate the return on your investment.

Competitor analysis is a crucial consideration in marketing and overall digital strategy

Every client and every industry is different so although the actual layout of the document may be similar, the actual strategy is likely to be exceptionally different. Even within industries,

This document should cover strategy regarding your website, all external channels such as social media platforms including but nor exclusive to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and Instagram. It should also discuss paid search such as the use of Facebook Adverts and Adwords and the use of sales and conversion funnels as well as the development of email and lead lists.

And finally does it cover remarketing and monetisation? If not you've missed a golden opportunity.

Implementation

Of course you can be in possession of the most fantastic strategy document in the world, but if you are unable to implement it is worth nothing more than the paper it is printed on.

A strategy document should suggest web developers designers, social media managers, SEO experts, marketing specialists and of course where possible a provider where all or most of this can be done under one roof.
